Tosho Oshoffa, Shepherd of CCC International Headquarters, Ketu, Lagos State recently made headlines with his controversial statements regarding polygamy position in the church. This has sparked a debate among members of the church, with some pointing fingers at bloggers and content writers for perpetuating negative stereotypes about the church.
It is important to consider where these bloggers and content writers are getting their information from. Are they simply reacting to the actions of individuals within the church who may not be representing the church in the best light? One such individual is Tosho Oshoffa who, despite being a child of the Pastor Founder has raised eyebrows with his views on marriage and biblical teachings.
In a recent interview with The Punch Newspaper, Tosho Oshoffa claimed that there is no law forbidding polygamy in Celestial Church. This statement not only raised questions about his understanding of biblical teachings but also highlighted his narrow focus on a particular agenda rather than on developing himself as a shepherd in a church with a rich history spanning 76 years.
While Tosho Oshoffa may have shared his perspective on various issues within the church, his public error in responding carelessly to a question about marriage has called into question his credibility as a marriage counselor and a leader within the church. It is crucial for individuals in positions of authority within the church to demonstrate a deep understanding of biblical teachings and to act as role models for the congregation.
The Bible does not explicitly mention the term “polygamy” when addressing the practice it represents. However, the absence of this specific word in our translations of the original Bible texts does not imply that God condones polygamy. Marriage is clearly defined in Scripture as the union of one man and one woman, as stated in Genesis 2:24. Therefore, polygamy does not align with this definition and is not considered a legitimate form of marriage.
Various scriptures advise against polygamy in all its forms, and Celestial Church of Christ upholds the real definition of biblical teachings in its beliefs and practices. The Church’s Pastor Founder does not endorse polygamy for the congregation, viewing multiple marriages as a result of specific circumstances. The Bible, in passages such as Genesis 2:24, Exodus 21:10, Matthew 19:4-6, Titus 1:6, Deuteronomy 17:17, 1 Corinthians 7:2, and others unequivocally condemns polygamy, infidelity in marriage, and domestic violence.
It is recommended that Tosho Oshoffa enroll in the Church’s theology school located at 53km Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State. His public statements in print and electronic media lack fundamental understanding of biblical teachings. Being the child of the Church’s Pastor Founder does not grant him the authority to publicly espouse controversial theories on behalf of the Church.
