It is with the heaviest of hearts that we at Celestial Prerogative News join the entire Awo family and indeed, all Nigerians in mourning the passing of Barrister Olusegun “Segun” Awolowo, grandson of the venerable sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
As Awoists, we hold dear not only the political legacy of Chief Awolowo but also the spirit of integrity, service, and vision that he inspired in his descendants. Segun Awolowo embodied that legacy in every facet of his life: as a dedicated public servant, a committed patriot, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a man of faith.
Segun’s distinguished career included his long tenure as Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, where he served from 2013 to 2021. His leadership there was marked by humility, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to advancing Nigeria’s non-oil exports—and by extension, the prosperity of our nation. President Tinubu noted that Segun “exemplified the Awolowo pedigree … a lawyer committed to defending truth and justice.”
Beyond his professional excellence, Segun was deeply rooted in family, faith, and service. His family’s statement described him as “steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family.” He was “a true family man … a wonderful servant of God, and a deeply beautiful human being” who “lived every day with purpose, humility, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him.”
To the Awolowo family, your grief is shared across generations of Awoists. We know that this loss cuts deeply: not just the passing of a scion of a great political tradition, but of a man who symbolized humility, faith, and nation-building. Our thoughts and prayers are especially with his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his devoted mother, Sisi Abah Folawiyo.
We also acknowledge the many public figures who have expressed their sorrow: Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State describes Segun’s death as a “profound personal loss.” Senate President Godswill Akpabio has spoken of the enduring impact of Segun’s legacy. And the Oyo State chapter of the NUJ calls his death a “monumental national loss.”
As Celestial Prerogative News, rooted in Awoist conviction, we exhort all of us to remember Segun not only in grief but in gratitude. May his life inspire us to deeper service, greater integrity, and stronger commitment to the soul of Nigeria.
We pray God gives the Awolowo family the strength to bear this loss, and we ask that He grants Segun’s gentle soul eternal rest.
Rest well, Barrister Segun Awolowo.

Rest In Peace, brother Segun Awolowo. Your demise is a clear message that this experience called ‘life’ is temporal in nature. What’s important is the legacy one leaves behind. You’ve fought a good fight and finished the race. Rest in God’s bossom. May God strengthen the love ones during this difficult time.
