The Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has once again demonstrated his commitment to unity and cultural harmony by hosting the 2026 edition of the annual Church Choir Competition as part of Easter celebrations.
Now in its fourth edition, the spiritually uplifting event was held at the prestigious Ife Grand Resort, attracting choirs from various Christian denominations across Ondo State and beyond.
The competition brought together vibrant church choirs including the Catholic Diocese of Ondo Central Choir, The Redeemed Christian Church of God Region 22 (Ondo State), St. David’s Anglican Cathedral Akure, Celestial Church of Christ Cathedral (Ondo State), and St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Igbara-Oke, among others.
Each choir delivered soul-lifting and inspiring renditions, showcasing remarkable vocal strength, harmony, coordination, and stage presence. Their performances not only entertained but also reflected the true essence of Eastercelebrating faith, hope, and resurrection through music.
A distinguished panel of judges, made up of seasoned music professionals and clergy, carefully evaluated the performances based on vocal quality, originality, coordination, and overall presentation.
Speaking during the event, the Convener, Olori Fadekemi Ogunwusi, appreciated the monarch’s unwavering dedication to promoting interfaith unity and youth engagement through creative and spiritual platforms.
At the climax of the competition, The Redeemed Christian Church of God Region 22 (Ondo State) emerged as the overall winner, clinching the top prize. The Catholic Diocese of Ondo Central Choir secured second place, while St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Igbara-Oke, finished third. The Celestial Church of Christ Cathedral (Ondo State) came fourth.
In his characteristic generosity, the Ooni rewarded the winners handsomely. The first-place choir received ₦2 million alongside food items; the second-place winner got ₦1.5 million and food items; the third-place choir received ₦1 million with food items; while the fourth-place winner was awarded ₦500,000 and food items.
Reaffirming his vision, the Ooni emphasized his continued support for initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence, religious harmony, and unity among diverse faith communities.
The event stands as a shining example of how music, culture, and faith can come together to strengthen bonds and inspire collective progress in society.
