On the 26th of December 2023, Pastor Adeboye (General Overseer) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) visited the town of Imeko Afon, Ogun State. The town warmly welcomed him as he organized an open-air crusade to spread the message of salvation, deliverance and breakthrough.
During his sermon, Pastor Adeboye emphasized the significance of the Church’s visit to Imeko. He explained that the purpose of their missionary journey was to introduce Jesus Christ to the town and bring His teachings to the people.
The crusade took place at Nazareth High School in Imeko, attracting a diverse crowd from the town. Pastor Adeboye also conducted an Altar Call, inviting those who wished to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ. As part of the event, a database was created to gather information from the new converts. The General Overseer assured them that he would continue to pray for them and ensure proper follow-up to support their spiritual growth.

The RCCG’s Open Air Crusade & acquired of lands has sparked controversy among members of Celestial Church. Some members expressed concerns about another denomination encroaching on Celestial territory, while another set of members believed that Imeko City does not exclusively belong to Celestial Church. They argued that the citizens of Nigeria have the fundamental right to operate independently within the country’s sovereignty without any restrictions.
The topic under debate also stems from another perspective, suggesting that Celestial Church has not actively engaged in public evangelism, thereby allowing the RCCG to gain an advantage in terms of expansion. However, the response of Celestial Church members towards the RCCG in Imeko has prompted the Pastor to initiate a phone conversation with the Oba of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Oyeditan Olanite regarding the acquisition of land in Imeko. This conversation was subsequently published on the Church’s blog on December 18, 2023.
The sudden arrival of the RCCG bringing Jesus Christ to Imeko should be a source of astonishment, particularly considering that Celestial Church of Christ has been a prominent presence in Imeko City for over four decades. It is therefore reasonable to assert that Celestial Church has not yet introduced Jesus Christ to Imeko City.
However, during a classified phone conversation with a Parish of Celestial Church, the Oba of Imeko expressed his dissatisfaction with the leadership conflict in the Church and the lack of genuine efforts towards reconciliation from the Church authority. The king confirmed to had previously met with the Pastor on two occasions to address the negative narrative surrounding the Church crisis in Imeko City.
In light of the agitation within Imeko City & Celestial Church, will Celestial Church organize a world-class open-air crusade under the supervision of Cardinal Odunmbaku, who serves as the Evangelism Patron of the Church?
Furthermore, we would like to inquire about the progress of the proposed University Project at Imeko, which the registered Board of Trustees had sealed an approval from National Universities Commission will commence?
Additionally, we are curious to know when the Phase 1 of the Basilica will be completed and when Phase 2 will commence. These developments hold great significance for the Church and the Imeko community at large?
We eagerly await a response from the Church authority regarding the matters discussed or any other relevant updates.

I still wonder why CCC has not overtaken the Imeko town as Jesus disciples. I expect, at least, 75% of Imeko town to have become solid members of Celestial Church of Christ. Using RCCG as a yardstick, you cannot see any other church within the parameters of Redemption Camp. I used to see one CCC parish close to camp before, but have been taken over by RCCG. What has happened to CCC Ketu headquarters that used to be a dominant force? Even National Headquarters in Makoko? Are we really preaching the Good News enough? Are we really focusing on our calling on cleansing the world, as it is commended by our Lord Jesus Christ, the owner of the church “Go he into the world and preach the Goodnews”? Less dances, more Revivals are needed right now. Jesus is arriving soon.
