Rumors began circulating on social media platforms claiming that a member of the parish had Ipese on the 22nd September 2024, which was contaminated with food poisoning. As a result, many members who consumed the Ipese have been experiencing health challenges. There are even unconfirmed reports that three members have tragically lost their lives due to consuming the contaminated food.
Another news report has surfaced claiming that the Parish made the decision to evacuate the soakaway in preparation for the harvest, unknowingly causing the lower drainage of the soakaway to be linked to the water borehole. This resulted in members who drank water during that period being affected.
Press Statement from the Parish Parochial CommitteeHowever, the Parish has issued a press statement refuting these claims as false and unconfirmed. The statement, signed by Honorary Senior Evangelist Korede Ogunmola (Parochial Committee Chairman) explains that there was a cholera outbreak within the Parish area that had extended to the Apata area, leading to the situation in their parish. The statement does not clarify whether three members lost their lives in the hospital.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health of the Oyo State Government has not released any official statement regarding an outbreak of cholera at the time of filing this report.
