The Pastor Founder Rev SBJ Oshoffa was known for his strict adherence to discipline. Under his leadership, measures were put in place to address any negativity surrounding the responsibilities entrusted to him. His successor continued this tradition of proactive correction, ensuring that shepherds, church workers and members adhered to the instructions laid out by God for the Church.
However, on the 1st of June 2024, the Governing Council of RCCG made a significant decision. They announced the suspension of Pastor Iluyomade for three months due to his failure to comply with the Church authority’s decision regarding the celebration of his wife, Siji Iluyomade’s birthday.
It was recall that on the 18th of February 2024, Siji Iluyomade made headlines with her extravagant 60th birthday celebration, which coincided with the sudden death of former Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, a prominent member of the church. The criticism of Pastor Iluyomade sparked allegations of financial misconduct, prompting a renowned audit firm to investigate the parish’s finances. Reports suggest a staggering N320 million debt leading to Iluyomade’s suspension.
Similarly, on the 2nd of April 2024, Leke Adeboye, son of the General Overseer of RCCG publicly criticized some pastors as “GOATs” for holding services after his father’s online live stream. The Governing Council intervened, requiring Adeboye to publicly apologize to the pastors, which he promptly did.
However, our church has a troubling pattern of avoiding accountability. There is a lack of structure for addressing and enforcing disciplinary measures for those who violate church regulations. Instances of financial mismanagement, including the misuse of church funds and anointment fees, go unchecked. Some shepherds & elders no longer fear consequences, as their integrity has been compromised for material gain.
Individuals who possess the authenticity to alter the narrative of the Church, as it has been portrayed to the Pastor, are viewed as adversaries by the Pastor. He has chosen not to acknowledge their concerns or attempt to reconcile with them.
When the church reverts back to the principles established by our founding fathers, who tirelessly labored to promote a Church where adherence to instructions was paramount, steps to enforce discipline and foster a conducive environment for worship will gradually take hold.
Conclusively, the RCCG steps speak to those in CCC authority on the importance of upholding the values and standards set forth by the Pastor Founder &:those who worked closely with him. It will underscores the necessity of respecting and following the decisions made by the registered BOT if restore, in order to maintain the integrity and unity of the organization.
